General Rate Increase Surcharge GRI
GRI stands for General Rate Increase. It is generally used for South American and US routes. Due to various reasons such as ports, ships, fuel, cargo or other aspects, the shipping company's transportation costs have increased significantly. In order to compensate for these increased expenses, the shipowner has added a comprehensive rate increase surcharge.
Peak Season Surcharge PSS
PSS stands for Peak Season Surcharge. This fee is usually charged by many shipping companies during the peak season when freight is busy, which is somewhat similar to the price increase during the "Spring Festival" in my country. April to November each year is generally the peak season for world freight.
Emergency Bunker Surcharge EBS
The full name is Emergency Bunker Surcharge, which means emergency bunker surcharge. EBS is a surcharge for ocean freight, and is generally settled in US dollars like ocean freight. If it is FOB terms, this fee should be borne by the consignee, not the consignor, because EBS is not a local FOB fee. This fee can be paid on delivery or in advance.
EBS is generally a surcharge temporarily charged to compensate for the rapidly rising costs when international crude oil prices rise rapidly and shipping companies feel that the price exceeds their affordability and it is inconvenient to increase shipping rates in a timely manner due to sluggish market conditions.
Original Receiving Charge (ORC)
The full name is Original Receiving Charge (ORC). This charge is more complicated, and is both different from and related to the terminal handling charge (THC). ORC is only available in ports in South China, mainly in Guangdong, while THC is available in all ports (including Guangdong). Only one of ORC and THC is charged - if ORC is charged, THC will not be charged. If THC is charged, ORC will not be charged.
ORC is specifically for ocean routes that depart from ports in South China and have destinations in North America, Central and South America, Europe, and North Africa. Ports in South China that go to other destinations, such as Southeast Asia, are the same as ports in other regions, and only THC is charged.
